Data Protection

I (Carolyn McKerracher) am a registered fee-payer with the Information Commissioners’ Office (ICO) and I adhere to the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).

I currently collect and process the following information provided by you or a referrer regarding enquiries, appointments, or to provide you with a counselling service:

  • Personal identifiers, contacts and characteristics (e.g. name and contact details).

  • Contract/ consent form.

  • Emails and their contents.

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases I rely on for processing this information is:

  • Consent: At our first meeting, you will be asked to sign your consent to storage of data. You can withdraw your consent at any time, but this may mean I am unable to provide a counselling service to you.

  • Contract: Processing is a necessary part of the contract I have with you.

The website https://www.cmcounselling.uk is hosted by Squarspace.com, which has its own Privacy Policy.

Data Storage and deletion

  • Your identifying information (e.g. name and contact details) is securely stored in the Microsoft cloud in a password protected folder. All emails are stored in the secure Proton Mail system, which is accessible only by me.

  • I will delete all emails and identifying information (e.g. name and contact details) seven years after we have finished working together, or sooner, if you prefer.

  • If you decide not to work with me, I will delete your emails/ contact details within three months, or sooner if you prefer.

Data Protection Rights

You have the right to ask me for copies of your personal information and to rectify or complete personal information you think is inaccurate or incomplete. You also have the right to ask me to erase/ restrict/ object to your personal information, but this may mean that I cannot provide you with a service.

You also have the right to ask me, in certain circumstances, to pass the information you gave me to another organisation, or to you. If you make a request, I have one month to respond to you, without charge.
